"450 helpers, says coburg’s press spokesman michael selzer "have received a book of vouchers – as a reward for their exemplary efforts at the fire in herrngasse." But on tuesday evening it was to be a rather "discreet get-together" being at the coburg guardian festival: "i have thought about giving a speech", says mayor norbert kastner (SPD), who is celebrating together with his two deputies norbert tessmer (SPD) and hans-heinrich ulmann (CSB). "But with the weather being so kind, everyone scatters quite quickly. And today the socializing should be in the foreground and not the talking."
The mayor has already written to thank all the helpers who put in a great effort during the fire in herrngasse and the rescue of the valuable exhibits in the doll museum respectively their "wife have stood.
For the "normal output price according to selzer, the city purchased the book of vouchers from the schutzengesellschaft coburg for 15 euros as a way of saying thank you for their voluntary work. The services of the booklet, worth 23 euros, offer food and drink such as a liter of festival beer and a portion of knuckles as well as arm pushing in the old angers gym and spab in rides such as ferris wheel "virus" and autoscooters. On tuesday evening, at the invitation of the city of coburg, the helpers gathered in the marquee to celebrate together.
Ralf barocke from rodental is a group leader with the technical relief organization (THW). He was on the scene of the fire for more than 30 hours. "We supported the fire department and watched the fire from above at the morizkirche church. We have also helped to save the interior of the doll museum", he reports. More than 70 people from the THW were involved in the operation, confirms the head of the THW, rene gobel. Barocke is now happy with his boss and his colleagues from the THW about the "nice gesture of the city". "But we had helped in any case also without the coupon book", he emphasizes, "especially when you see how the residents got scared that night."
His colleague, 19-year-old thomas koch from the niederfullbach fire department, is a trained respirator wearer. He came to the schutzenfest with 15 colleagues. Koch thinks it is "great that there is this kind of attention". He is especially pleased about the voucher of the "virus" driving company, with which the passengers must be already quite saddle-firmly. "I helped to remove the dolls from the doll museum", says thomas koch, who is always deployed where he is needed. After the operation at the doll museum he was on call at the theater square. In case the fire should flare up again", he says, should he print out with his colleagues. "Thank god this has not been the case."
22-year-old gabriel schrader even acted in a dual role as a helper: he was a member of both the american samaritan association (ASB) and the coburg fire department. "The first night, I was on the road with about eight colleagues in the rescue service and took in patients together with emergency physician gerhard beyer." Luckily, there were no serious injuries, he recalls. After an hour’s break, he was then on duty for the fire department in the central station. Afterwards he kept fire watch. "All in all, I must have spent 36 hours on the road", schrader estimates. And: "with us in the coburg fire department, everything was on its feet." He buries the book of vouchers in the ground: "this is a sign from the city and the mayor that we have done a good job on a voluntary basis."
